Details of 2011 Awards ceremony held at the Beachcomber Club on November 26th

Coaches Award – Peter Gifford – Peter coaches athletics to a very high standard which includes coaching one individual to National Level 2011. Peter also this year achieved his UKA Club Coach status. While Peter acts as a mentor to all of his athletes he understands fully the role of the family in developing an athlete having regular contact with all of them and travels with the family to many events. This year he coached Under 15 girl Rachael Bell to 7th in the 200m at National level, 200m champion in the North of England Championships and Bronze medallist in the 200m at the UKA/England Championships.

2nd Jackie Jones 3rd Sean Wood

Disabled Sports Personality Award – Dean Wingate – Dean has been the most successful Boccia player within the Disability Sports Forum over the last 12 months. In the North East Lincolnshire Boccia Championships he won the Open competition and was also runner up in the doubles competition. Earlier in the year Dean won the Class A singles competition at the Clee Sports Family Boccia Tournament. Dean is also a member of the Grimsby Seagulls that compete in the national Boccia league. The Seagulls finished second in the Yorkshire 2 region just missing out on the National Final. Playing for Forum in the Inter-Town Boccia competitions Dean and his team finished a respectable 3rd place.

Junior Disabled Sports Personality Award-  James Jagger – James had an excellent year, picking up a number of trophies along the way competing in Table Tennis and Swimming. At Table Tennis James retained the Clee Sports Trophy for players with a disability held as part of the Grimsby and District Closed Table Tennis Championships. James was the winner of the Grimsby Bears Table Tennis handicap tournament held at the YMCA. James also holds the trophy as the fastest swimmer at the Forum’s inaugural swimming gala last September. James played a major part in helping the District win for the first time in 29 years at the Rotary District Disabled Games in Hull.

Junior Team Award – Breakaways JFC Under 16s – Breakaway’s had a very impressive season winning 3 competitions with the first being the Grimsby and District league title scoring 126 goals and conceding only 10. The club won the Tom Fox cup when they beat Immingham Pilgrims 9-0 in the final and then went on to win the Lincolnshire County Cup with a 1-0 win. The club then went on to pick up the sporting team of the year award. Breakaways had players go off on trial with Grimsby Town, Nottingham Forrest, Scunthorpe United and Lincoln City. 5 of the players also played for the Lincolnshire County under 18s side. The whole squad got accepted into the Grimsby Town Academy with one player now down to the final trial to represent England at school boy level.

2nd Humberston Boys Under 13’s Hockey Team 3rd Humberside Schools FA

Senior Team Award – Grimsby Town Pumas – Grimsby Town Pumas were newly promoted to Division 1 of the Grimsby and District midweek cricket league in 2011. The gap between division 1 and 2 was a big leap for the club but they have stepped up to the challenge and went unbeaten for a long period into the season. Grimsby Town Pumas secured the championship beating many well established sides and even defeated the champions of division 2 from the prior year. Grimsby Town Pumas played very entertaining cricket as was deserved champions.

Services to Sport Award  – Jo Borrill – Jo has been involved with the Forum for nearly 15 years now and over the years has made an important contribution to its success. Despite Jo not being a swimmer she always attends the swimming club and keeps a look out for the children in the water. Jo organises the teams and travel arrangement for all of the National Boccia League and other inter-town competitions. Jo also provides an excellent buffet for all of the players after the game. In addition to the weekly sessions Jo helps at all Forum events including the Humberston Fun Run, It’s A Knockout and the annual Christmas Party.

2nd Paul Hostad – Paul has played Cricket for Port Office Cricket Club 3rd Lynne Holmes – Lynne has volunteered for Pilgrim Swimming Club for over 30 years

The Norman Melia Young Persons Services To Sport Award -Steve Winton – Steve began volunteering for sports development before joining the Young Peoples Support Service volunteering programs. Steve has shown commitment attending countless sessions in all types of weather, covering areas including Central, East Marsh, West Marsh, and putting in over 250 hours of volunteer hours. Steve has now increased his coaching knowledge and ability and gained his FA Level 1 in football. Steve has developed an excellent rapport with the young people he has been involved with and is always motivated and interested in learning more about coaching. Steve also has managed teams that enter the Sports Lincs tournaments for young people from 10-19 years old. 2nd Callum Stanland Most Improved Sportsperson Award Lacie Stembridge – Aged 11 Lacie has had an amazing year as a student of Kaizen No-Michi School of Shotokan Karate. Lacie shone in front of Chief Examining instructors being the only person ever to receive a distinction when she achieved her 1st KYU. Lacie has also received her black belt and is the first student to achieve this from starting out as a beginner. Lacie competed at the Seibukan Children’s National Karate Championships taking gold in individual and team Kumite, 1st place Team Kata and award best female competitor. Lacie went on to represent England at the JKS World Karate Championships where she picked up a Silver and Bronze.

Junior Sports Personality Award – Rachel Bell – Rachel has been a member of the Cleethorpes Athletics club for 6 years. Rachel’s success this year has inspired many athletes in her club several of whom benefit from training with her on a regular basis. This year Rachel has broken club records and her coach believes she has the potential to achieve all the way to the Great Britain squad. Rachel is the Humberside County Champion 100 & 200 meters, Gold medallist at the Northern Inter Counties 100 & 200 meters, Lincolnshire Schools Champion 200 meter and Anglian Schools Champion 100 and 200 meters. Rachel is also ranked at 7th in the County for under 15 girls 200 meters and 10th at 300 meters.

2nd Jamie Carter –Wheelchair Athlete 3rd Finley Thompson – Triathlete

Sports Personality Award – Leanne Stephen – Following years of hard training at the EIS in Sheffield as part of the GB Paralympic squad, Leanne was selected to represent England in the Ladies Wheelchair Open table Tennis competition at the 2010 Commonwealth Games that where held in Delhi. Leanne in a group of 6 with the top 2 qualifying for the next round was unlucky when she finished just out of the top 2 in 3rd place winning 3 of her 5 matches in her best performance to date. In addition to being a top player Leanne is very passionate about promoting sport to all young people and is a raising star in the Jaguar Academy of Sport.

2nd Indy Hayre – Indy plays Cricket for Punjab Lions and competes in the Grimsby and District mid week Cricket League 3rd Dane Hullett – Dane is a well respected member of the Fencing club and is progressing at a rapid speed
